Pro:

  • Provides large amount of Vitamins & Minerals compared to Agave
  • Is an antioxidant - including chrysinpinobanksinvitamin Ccatalase, and pinocembrin.[32]
  • Most microorganisms can not grow in it because of low water activity of 0.6
  • Locally grown honey is known to help hay fever allergy sufferers
  • Known for long term preservation for decades even centuries
  • In Ayurveda, honey is considered to positively affect all three primitive material imbalances of the body
  • Honey appears to be effective in killing drug-resistant biofilms which are implicated in chronic rhinosinusitis.[64
  • used successfully in a comprehensive treatment of diabetic ulcers when the patient cannot use topical antibiotics.[66
  • may be an effective soothing agent for coughs.[69]

Con:

  • May contains dormant endospores of the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which can be dangerous to infants leading to botulism
  • You need more to have the same sweetness level of Agave adding to more calories
  • risk of experiencing anaphylaxis due to the pollen of the area if you are allergic

At first I thought Agave would be the better choice because it is sweeter, lower in calories, lower in GI and GL, but then the volumes of health benefits of Honey blew Agave away. There is nothing in Agave. YES, it is a better substitute to refined table sugar, but it has no nutritional value compared to the antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and healing effects of Honey.

So hands down, Honey is a better overall then Agave, but like all things, don't over do it since there are calories in it, but they are a much healthier sweetner than agave and refined sugar. ENJOY!
